Fall. Colors. Cool breeze. Falling leaves. And yes. Seasonal Allergies. Cold and flu season around the corner. The difficulty this year is that we will not always know what we are dealing with. Is it allergies, a cold, the flu, indigestion, a weird side effect of an ingrown toenail...or maybe even covid? The scale of appropriate precautions to take is as varied as the symptoms of the diagnosis themselves. If it’s just an ingrown toenail, you probably aren’t contagious. But if it’s not, you might want to get tested for strep, flu, Covid...and seasonal allergies. Allergies are annoying, but at least they are not contagious. What is contagious is the stress, fear, and worry I could have over how life will look when it gets too cold to socialize outside, or if all schools decide to go remote, or if there is a Covid outbreak in a toilet paper factory rendering a shortage. Today I am going to quarantine my worries and if I share anything, try and share a little gratitude. The sun shines, the fall colors are amazing, the toilet paper is on the shelves, and many children are in school, in school. There is always something to worry about. I usually have no trouble finding it. But there is always something to be grateful for too, and though it can be quite obvious, I sometimes have to pause to see it. Today I am pausing. Tomorrow, this day will be gone, along with the opportunity to give thanks in it. Why wait for November when you can welcome October with a little bit of thanksgiving?
