A Look at Easter

A Look at Easter

Riding on a colt He came.

They spread their cloaks to cheer His reign.

Later He was called a fraud,

And mocked for simply being God.

An oil with a fragrance sweet,

A woman used to wash His feet.

The worshipers had come in haste,

They said it was an act of waste.

Follow Him, come low, come high,

But in the end, they would all deny

The One they knew as Lord and friend,

Still He would love them to the end.

An act of ultimate disgrace,

They spit upon His battered face.

Yet He restrained His power, to show,

Just how far saving love would go.

With nails in His hands and feet,

It looked like He had met defeat.

Man of God from highest throne,

Suffered on the cross alone.

Our punishment, felt with each breath,

Led ultimately to His death.

But soon it would be very plain

The death He died was not in vain.

Darkness covered all the earth,

The tomb was sealed, for what that’s worth.

In the distance Heaven sings,

You cannot kill the King of Kings.

No time to hang out in a grave,

He came to earth to serve and save.

His resurrected body rose,

To find the ones He loved and chose.

Born afresh with hope and cheer,

They wondered where to go from here.

Just as clear as clear could be,

Jesus said, "Come follow Me.”

He offers strength, come joy or sorrow

For today and each tomorrow

Promised He will end all pain

When He comes again to reign

Not too many Kings would choose

To walk a mile in our shoes,

To leave the comforts of the throne,

For people, helpless on their own.

In life He showed us how to live,

In death He showed us how to give.

In His resurrection hour

He showed us His eternal power.

The price is paid, love has won,

Can you hear Him calling, "Come?"

There is no place He cannot reach,

No chasm that He cannot breach.

Bask in the fullness of His grace

Found even in your hardest place.

Receive the gift He freely gives,

And celebrate- for Jesus lives!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16
