Strange as it seems at first, I miss my dad this Mother’s Day. I miss my dad because this is the first Mother’s Day he is not here. Here to put flowers on my mom’s grave. Here to call and talk memories. If you have yet to lose a mother or a child you might be tempted to skip over this part of the post. I would say, don’t. Not just because I wrote it, but because should you ever experience a loss, you will be glad to know in your sadness that joy and pain can co-exist.
Motherhood itself teaches us about mixed emotions. Anyone who has ever lost a child at a mall and then found that child again can attest. You can be extremely mad at someone and extremely overwhelmed by your love for them all at the same time. Love never runs out, at least God’s love. I thank Him today for what He teaches us about His love through our earthly relationships. Today is a day to celebrate band-aids plastered on boo-boos, tears wiped clean with lollipops, laundry, laundry, and more laundry, clean, folded, neatly stacked...well okay at least clean. It is amazing......
