Perhaps it is only fitting that Passion Week is upon us as we wait for coronavirus to peak. The world has seen more than one stretch of darkness. And while it may be a week when coronavirus takes lives, more so may it be a week when through the promise and power of Christ’s resurrection, more life is given. True life. Everlasting life. The kind of life only Jesus can give and things like coronavirus cannot touch. May His goodness, compassion, and comfort reach the hurting and broken. May His love, His Honor and His glory, rise higher than all we will face in the coming week or years.
“But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,”
Psalm 103:17
This week, may we ponder the eternality of God. May we ponder that coupled with His love. It will bring hope to our darkest moments, because all moments here will pass. It will bring greater joy to our most satisfying moments, because our best moments here are just a foretaste of what is to come.
“... no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” I Corinthians 2:9
Our moments here matter, but only as a springboard into eternity. May we use our moments to grab hold of the gift of eternal life, offered to us through the shed blood of Christ, who died to make atonement for our sins. May we say with Paul-
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21
And this week, more often than we turn to the news, or social media, or our online shopping carts, may we turn to the King of Kings.
