Every day we hope to read God’s word, make a memory, and laugh. Laughter is so uplifting, especially when you otherwise feel down. Today I made up a new coronavirus joke.

“What is worse than being stuck at home during Coronavirus?” (drum roll)

“Being stuck at home during Coronavirus without internet service!”

My daughter did not think it was funny. Mostly because it was not a joke, it was our reality. The internet died in the middle of her virtual piano lesson, and there was virtually nothing I could do about it. My husband is one of those men who considers himself fortunate enough to be able to work from work; unfortunately for him, my cell phone had not lost connection. And while my daughter did not laugh at my joke, she did laugh over dinner as he explained what it was like to be interrupted from working on world health problems, to try and explain to someone who is unfamiliar with a router, how to try and reboot the system…for the third time. I have to admit, I had a Plan B when my grocery store order came minus the produce, when there was no toilet paper to be had, and when it snowed during physical education time last week. But I could not come up with anything to assuage the crisis of not having internet service. My daughter needed it to pull up the bread recipe to make bread for dinner, my son’s school work needed to be uploaded, and writing is my healthy coping mechanism in times of stress. We did the best we could by putting together a make-shift stir fry recipe and going a few rounds farther in our Monopoly game. Then we waited for dad to come home. It is a wonderful thing to have a father who can put things together when they fall apart. And while the earthly hero of our household cannot fix everything, ie. the sliding (but only when it wants to) shower door, we have a Redeemer who

“...upholds the universe by the word of his power.” Hebrews 1:3

Sometimes life falls apart. Sometimes we fall apart. We do not lose hope, because our hope is not in ourselves or in our ability to hold it all together. Our hope is in God’s Son.

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. Hebrews 1:3

May He speak a word to you today, grant you memories of His faithfulness, and give you the gift of laughter or a smile.
