Who Cares?

Today on the way to the park I passed a bird, struggling to take wing.  He was injured enough to have difficulty leaving the ground, but quick enough to avoid the hands of a compassionate passer by hoping to help him.  Perhaps he will heal enough to fly again.  Perhaps his time has come.  It was hard to watch him struggle.  It is hard to watch those I love walk through hardship, hard to walk through hardships of my own.  This seems to be a season of hardship.  For one reason or another, lives are being lost.  People are losing sight of hope, or so it can seem.  Loss is overwhelming, especially loss heaped upon loss.  But I remember, no matter how much loss, or devastation, or sadness we see, there is One who is willing to enter into each of our losses uniquely, in a caring and compassionate way.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.  But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.  Matthew 10:29-31

Trials will come.  Who cares?  He who knows the number of hairs on the head of those created in His image.    He who created us,  each one, and sent His Son that we might come to know His love, the sole remedy for the brokenness of a world.  He stoops to gather the fragments of our broken hearts.  May we allow Him to enter into our grief and trust Him where our faith is not yet sight.  It may be a season of hardship but with Him we will fly again.
