Living in Freedom

It is mostly being free from sin

And the hopeless debt that we were in

For all we are not, there is a way

Christ came in full, our debt to pay

 

It is also living in a land that is free

From oppression and from slavery

The choice to worship as we choose

To decide how we, our time will use

 

But even free men, I have found

Can live as though they still are bound

Refuse to let go of the things

Which hold us back and bind our wings

 

Sometimes it is good to think about

The things that do not help us out

Here’s a list of just a few

That may bind me, and may bind you

 

Anger, Bitterness, Cravings, Distrust,

Envy, Fear, and Greed

Hurts, Impressions, Jealousy, 

Keeping score when there’s no need

 

Lost  dreams, Mistakes, Needless comments, 

Oversights, and present Pain

Quest for more, Rejection, 

Sorrows which will here remain

  

Troubles and Unwanted trials, Victories not yet won, 

Woes and eXpectations, Yesterdays and days to come, 

Zest to do our very best even if we step on toes

The list of things that hold us back, on and on it goes

 

May we find grace to do the hard work in the letting go

Of things that keep us from the freedom that we long to know

Appreciate more every day our freedoms big and small

And help the world to understand that freedom is for all
