To Have A Father

Whether you’re a little girl trying to catch a Whip-poor-will

Or a little older lad, feeling just a little sad

There is a comfort to be found when a certain someone is around

For with a father, come what may, you know that things will be OK

A dad is there for assessing the stakes, for giving you courage, for fixing what breaks

For teaching you what to do and when, for cheering you on to keep trying again

There is comfort in having a dad by your side, in knowing the things that you need he’ll provide

When you have a father, come what may, you know that things will be okay

Somewhere today a father kneels to listen to his child’s appeals

Becomes the shoulder on which to cry, when no one can explain the “why”

Yet somewhere else there’s an emptiness, for a father that is greatly missed

Cause fathers have a special way of somehow making things okay

On Father’s day, may you know more of, the Heavenly Father whose endless love

Calls you to be His, to walk by His side, and promises each of your needs to provide

Oh the joys with Him that are in store, may you come to know Him, or know Him more

For when you have a father, come what may, you know that things will be okay

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us,

that we should be called the children of God; and so we are.”  I John 3:1
