Thoughts for Thanks-giving

More than just the words we say, it’s what our hearts believe
An attitude of gratitude in all that we receive
Knowledge that each gift we have comes from the God we serve
The disposition that He gives us more than we deserve
It is taking time to thank Him for the things that He has done
And also what He promises to do in days to come
Open hands to welcome, a love as great as His
And the rest just He can offer, because of who He is
Some days we have to dig a little deeper just to find
The ways in which He shows Himself in circumstances, kind
For in the pain and sorrow that this world we live in brings
It is not always easy, to thank Him in all things
But our deepest of thanksgiving is not for things here we hold
It is rather for the promises He has promised us of old
Promises of grace, and of a Saviour who
Could atone for sin and will someday make all things new
Perhaps this is a year you find it easy, one by one
To count your many blessings and thank God for all He’s done
Or maybe you are simply thankful this year, He remains
Near you in the valleys and the heartache and the pain
The Giver of all gifts, works in mysterious ways
Finds glory both in blessings named and sacrifice of praise
So be it just one thing, or a thousand gifts you claim
Offer your true gratitude to His High and Holy Name.
“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!”
