The Reset Button

In a broken world (which our world is) we are bound to run into problems.  Problems weigh us down, but a reset can change our problems...or how they affect us.  Sometimes God simply pushes reset; He moves our mountains and smooths our valleys.  Other times a reset requires a little more participation on our part; our problems do not disappear, and we ourselves must be willing to be reset.  Take heart if you happen upon problems such as the ones listed below, there is a reset available!

Discouragement.  Everyone gets discouraged from time to time, even God’s chosen people.  We get discouraged when our circumstances are less than favorable, even more discouraged if they happen to go from bad to worse.  We are not unlike those in Psalm 107:27.

"They reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits’ end.  Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.”

Petition God in faith for deliverance when you meet with discouragement.  Call on God and wait, even if you have to wait a really long time...for deliverance.  He is the God of all Hope...even at wit’s end.

Pain and Suffering.  I wish I knew of a reset button I could push that would take the pain and suffering away.  There is no such button this side of Heaven, and in Heaven we will not need one.  I advocate praying for a change in circumstance, it is a real possibility with a God for whom nothing is impossible.  If however, God chooses to allow pain and suffering, there is still a reset button.  Reset happens when we are in unbroken communion with God.  Unbroken communion requires surrender and and obedience.  Surrender is like a sticky “send” key on a keyboard, we want His Lordship even in our suffering...but trust and surrender are harder to come by when pain persists.  Removing the barriers that keep us from experiencing the fullness of God’s presence does not always happen with the first punch.  Keep communing, surrendering, obeying...there is hope and grace that will follow as you persist.

“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.  For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.”  Psalm 5:11,12 (ESV)

Sin.  Sin has been around since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden.  Sin creates many problems- separation, guilt, pain, hardship and heartache, and in the end...it kills.  In the Old Testament sin killed people quite literally, like back in Moses day when the earth opened and swallowed up a disobedient group of folks.  That type of thing does not happen much in our day of grace, still, the end of sin is death.  No matter how good we are at justifying our sins or ignoring them, the problems (the guilt, pain, heartache etc.) never goes away.  The only way to get rid of sin is to atone for it.  Big sin.  Little sin.  Jesus is the reset button for sin, only He can atone for it.  Still, we have to push the button, confess our sin, choose His salvation, and call Him Lord and Savior.  We have to let Him nail our sin and guilt to the cross, all of it!  Sin is part of our broken world, but thanks to Jesus it does not have to be part of us.  Do not let sin weigh you down, unload it at the cross.

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”  II Corinthians 5:21 (ESV)

When life hands you a circumstance in which you cannot retreat, retry, redo or find relief...choose to reset...and rejoice instead.
