                           The Love of God

It was there before ever the Heavens were formed

It was there when the dawn of the day was first born

It was there in its joy and its wonder and awe

When in Eden, God’s goodness was all that they saw

It was there to commune, to protect, to provide

To explore without boundaries deep, far, and wide

Just do not eat the fruit, love was there to explain

When the rule was broken, love took the pain

It was there in a promise as countless as stars

The promise of “chosen”, someday to be ours

A promise of mercy, a promise of grace

A promise to someday meet God face to face

It is there when we feel it and there when we don’t

It is there when we seek it and there when we won’t

It is there in the victories we meet as we go

It is there in the deepest of sorrows we know

There is never a burden that it will not share

Or a trial of which it’s not keenly aware

There is never an instance that it cannot choose

For it’s ultimate glory each moment to use

There is never a moment in which it can’t teach

There is never a place we are out of it’s reach

In our brightest of days and our moments most tough

There is never a time that it is not enough

So drink it in deeply, the river is wide

On days you rejoice and on days you are tried

In all that you do and do not understand

Know You are held by its Almighty hand

Thirst for it’s cleansing and know it is meet

All that is lacking it fully completes

Wondrously matchless and ever the same

Let it ignite you and then fan the flame

“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son sent the world, so that we might live through him.  In this is love, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”  I John 4:10-11 (ESV)
