The Gift of Christmas

 

 

 

Perhaps you met with unexpected blessings in this year

Perhaps you met with sorrow, and unexpected fear

 

Perhaps God made a way for you where there would have been no way

Perhaps He simply gave you strength to make it through another day

 

We are only human - we are weak and we are frail

And it does not take much on earth for darkness to prevail

 

If an everlasting hope was going to pierce this world’s dark sky

It wasn't going to come through sinful men like you and I

 

About 2000 years ago in the darkness of the night

Hope came down from Heaven, an Everlasting Light

 

To offer us eternal life beyond our earthly years

And bring to us a peace that would conquer all our fears

 

He did not come with chariots and He did not come with fire

God's ways are not our ways - they are perfect and much higher

 

He did not come to fix us up or heal this world so broken

He came to give us new lives, and Heaven's joys unspoken

 

He could have come demanding we redeem ourselves with a price

Instead He offered His life as the perfect sacrifice

 

He could have made us bow to Him with power from above

Instead He let us chose Him because that's the way of love

 

2000 years and more have passed since that night Jesus came

Heaven's Hope made flesh - the world has never been the same

 

For Jesus is the promise of a better time to come

The strength we need in every day till life on earth is done

 

A gift that's left unopened is very sad indeed

Especially if it’s the only Gift that you will ever need

 

So unwrap the corners of your heart and watch the darkness lift

As God fills you up each moment with His most precious gift
