Miss You at Christmas

T“
There is glitter on the Christmas tree and ivy on the door
There are gifts beside the mantel, yet it’s different than before
The smell of fresh pine scents the room, amidst the cooking fuss
And we miss the ones who used to share this holiday with us
There are carols we are sure to sing, we’ll sing them from the heart
And although your voice is missing, we’ll still hear you sing your part
We read the story we so love of how the Christ Child came
And we smile to know the joy He brings will always stay the same
There are stockings to be filled, friends and family to meet
There are meals that are savory and candies that are sweet
There are jokes to bring us laughter and for sure a family game
But somehow the competition isn’t going to be the same
There’s hot chocolate by the fire where we huddle all together
And dream about the Homecoming that’s going to last forever
It surely is still Christmas, although you’re greatly missed
Still in our hearts we know Christ came for such a time as this
He came to offer hope, to a world where hearts were broken
He came to give a sacrifice of value yet unspoken
He came to give us comfort, when we miss folks like you
To recreate our stories here by making all things new
So even though we miss you, we’re going to celebrate
And think of when we’ll see you next, and then anticipate
The time when we together, will worship perfectly
In the only place where Christmas, is all that is should be
“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. (The LORD is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.) Psalm 145:14 (ESV)
