In Memory of Those We Have Loved and Have Lost

In memory of those we have loved and have lost

And in memory of those, whose lives were the cost

Of the freedoms we have that we oft take for granted

Of learning and growing and blooming where planted

In memory of those who taught us as they lived

How to love, how to share, how to give, and forgive

And in memory of those, who gave us so much more

Than simply the freedoms they were fighting for

Let us pause in this moment, before it slips past

And consider our moments, unfolding so fast

Let us live for just more, than the moments at hand

Yearning more for God’s glory than our fleeting plans

Let us treasure our moments, when that can be done

And in trials remember there’s better to come

Finding joy in the sunshine and comfort in pain

And hope in the rainbows that follow the rain

There is grace to be shared and a difference to make

When the less traveled road we are willing to take

When we lay down ourselves, and just for a while

Let the goodness of God, share through us a smile

There is peace to be found when we meet at the cross

The Savior whose life, for our sin paid the cost

His was the suffering no man had known

Ours His salvation to claim as our own

It’s a day for remembering so many things

Love at it’s finest, dreams taking wing

Along with life’s heartaches and wondering when

Or if we’d find courage to take flight again

As we think of the love of the many who cared

And in small and in big ways, their lives with us shared

May this day of remembering ‘cause us grow

In the depths of God’s love, which will not let us go

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12 (ESV)
