How to Not Let It Ruin Your Day

Life is hard.

Do not let that ruin your day, or month, or year, or life.

Remember that what happens to you, does not determine what happens in you.  You do not choose hard times, but you can choose a soft heart.

Acknowledge that hard times are hard.  Feel your feelings, the whole spectrum.  Acknowledge that  feelings are just that, feelings: they are powerful but they are also transient.  As you travel the road of life, feelings can slip into the driver’s seat, when this happens redirect them.  Take your feelings to the Lord, all of them.  Lay your sorrows, dreams, sadness, regrets, anxieties and frustrations at His feet.  Let the Lord God back into the driver’s seat of life, He knows how to use even feelings, for your good and His glory.   (Romans 8:37,38,39)

Hold onto hope.  Perhaps you have experienced disappointment, perhaps deep, deep disappointment.  As to love is to risk pain, to hope is to risk disappointment.  One way to avoid further disappointment, is to resign yourself to hopelessness.  Choosing hopelessness to avoid pain and disappointment is not worth the price, hold onto hope.  Thoughts are the atmosphere in which our souls live, choose an atmosphere in which you will thrive.  (Philippians 4:8)

Remember that the final chapter of your life story has not yet been revealed.  Sometimes A leads to B which leads to God.  Sometimes A leads to B leads to C, which leads to God.  In the end He is where it is all meant to lead.  He is the ultimate end, or rather...the beginning.  Coming to Him, is like coming home, to a good home, the kind of place you will always want to be.  Wait for the final chapter.  Know your amazing future and trust God for the immediate future which lies between here and there. (Revelations 7:15,16,17)

Enjoy something.  A sunset.  A butterfly.  Coffee.  A deep breath.  Savor it like you never have before.  When circumstances steal your joy from your cup, find a way to pour some joy back in.

Love and be loved.  You are loved, and you are lovely, even when you don’t feel like it.  Love is not a feeling it is a truth.  Share truth, by sharing love. (I John 4 :9,10)

Let go of what has a negative hold on you.  Pray the serenity prayer, with serenity.

Hold on to the upside, to goodness, truth, wholesome pleasures, love, and hope.  Endure the hard moments, embrace the good moments.  Hold on to the One who holds all things together, and who holds you. (Colossians 1:17)

"“And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together."  Colossians 1:17 (ESV)
