He Leads

It is hard to lead a child but it is even harder still

For the child who is needing, to lay down his own will

For the child whose mind and emotions try and tell him what he needs

But who in the end must lay them down and let another lead

It is hard to be a child when you think you know the way

And are not opposed to being led, as long as you have a say

Yet in the end you realize that the will you are clinging to

Will not get you where you want to go, and is only hurting you

The journey will go better for the child who learns he must

Lay his will and mind aside and in his father trust

For the child who takes his Father’s hand, through the thick and thin

Casts his doubt aside and tells his Father “I’m all in.”

The journey may be tough at times, but a father who truly leads

Will guide his child with wisdom, provide for all his needs

And warm will be the welcome after hill and dale they roam

In the love and joy that waits when they finally reach home

“To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.  O my God, in you I trust;”  Psalm 25:1,2 (ESV)
