Growing Gratitude

If you want to live a life that’s full

And with the punches learn to roll

Know much of life is attitude

And much of that is gratitude

To grow in gratitude is not

A skill you find, but one you've got

Put into practice day by day

It then becomes of life, a way

There are some things which I have found

It does not like to be around

Entitlement, to name just one

Causes gratitude to come undone

On the other hand, humility

Seems to be the very key

That ushers gratitude right in

Both in the thick and in the thin

Gratitude is often found

In places where hope hangs around

And though it can’t erase life’s pain

It can spot the rainbows through the rain

It doesn’t have to be well planned

Or a gratitude for something grand

For thankfulness in little things

Is all it takes to give it wings

Both best of days, and hardest known

Gratitude will make its home

Where a heart finds one, or one thing more

In the moment to be thankful for

For gratitude is not found in,

What could be or what could have been

But rather in when we learn how

To be thankful in the now

“Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving;”   Psalm 95:2
