Goal for the New Year

My goal this year is a lofty one.  No, I am not training for a marathon, getting an MBA in 6 months, or volunteering 1000 hours to charity.  But I will tell you that as ill equip as I or my calendar are for these types of goals, the goal I feel compelled to set will stretch me farther.

My goal is…

                                                                                     To live what is.

  1. To live what is with gratitude.  To have a mind that is tuned in to what I have today, not what I was hoping to have today.

  2. To live what is with grace. To receive grace and give grace ( in lieu of performance traps and score settling).

  3. To live what is with hope.  The biggest what is, is that Jesus is, and the hope He offers me cannot be shaken.

  4. To live what is with peace.  To stop trying to control life, which at best is unsuccessful and at worst is anxiety provoking.  Besides, control belongs to the One who hung the stars in place, we would not want it any other way.

  5. To live what is with truth.  Pretense is exhausting and usually a disservice.  I am who I am, yet not fully who I will be. Who I am is relatively insignificant in comparison to who Jesus is.  People do not need me, they need Jesus. I will live in the light of His truth.

Lofty, isn’t it?  But who says we can’t shoot for the moon.  Especially with the help of the One who hung the moon in place.  The purpose of my goal is not to check it off as “attained” at the end of the year.  The purpose of my goal is to be closer to it tomorrow (whatever tomorrow that is) than I am today.  The world does not need a better version of me, it needs a better view of Jesus. If He can teach me To live what is, they just might get one. :)

“I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20 (ESV)
