Free Thinking

Remember today, the stories of old

Of women and men whose faith was bold

With vision for life, but even more

A vision for freedom worth dying for

Remember each sacrifice they chose to give

Remember the heartache and hardship they lived

All for the freedom they longed to see

The freedom we have, that was not really free

Think of the simple things you take for granted

The freedom to move or to bloom where you’re planted

The freedom to work and the freedom to rest

The freedom to spend your time as you see best

Think about all of the choices which you

Make all day long because you are free to

Free to be silent or to speak your voice

Even which coffee you drink is your choice

Sit for a moment and look at the trees

Let them remind you of fond memories

Of moments in freedom, which you perhaps shared

With someone you’ve lost, but for whom you so cared

Sit for a moment and think about how

Loving this someone still changes you now

Remember the goodness they helped you to see

And then for a moment, just sit and just be

Be in the gratitude that can be found

When one takes a moment, just to slow down

Think of the freedoms for granted, ‘oft taken

Think of the hope that through storm can’t be shaken

Count up your blessings and give God due praise

For the freedom He gives us in so many ways

And ponder of the freedoms that yet are in store

Since Christ thought our freedom, was worth dying for

“For freedom Christ has set us free;” Galatians 5:1 (ESV)”
