Daily. Dependence. Deepens. Desire

Daily.

“Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”  Matthew 6:25

The only way to truly live is daily, otherwise, you are looking back or looking forward, and either way missing the moment.  It is possible to look backward or forward and stay in the moment, but we seldom do it.  Rather, we spend time in regrets, and in trying to figure out how to avoid the inevitables ahead.  We may breathe in those moments, but moments spent trying to figure out how to change what we cannot change aren’t the moments in which we are truly living.  Contrary to our human desire, we are not in control.  Contrary to our human way of thinking, that is a good thing.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”  Matthew 6:11

Ask.  Receive.  Forgive and be forgiven.

Take your daily bread.

Eat.

Dependence.

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”  Philippians 4:13

What I forget is, I can do nothing without Him.  I cannot breathe, I cannot even reach out for the strength I need.  Not without Him.  Ever run into a situation where you feel utterly helpless?  I do. I wonder why I meet these moments with anger and hopelessness.  My dependence is nothing new, just my awareness of it.  Contrary to our human desire, it is okay to be utterly dependent on God.  Contrary to our human way of thinking, you can only really relax when you are not in control.

Control, will control you.  Dependence, brings independence from that bondage.

Dare to depend.

Deepens.

“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith- that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Ephesians 3:18

Deeper. Higher. Stronger. Longer.  We want more.  More of what, we do not always know.  Sometimes we think we know.  We chase, only to meet up with disappointment.  Even when we are disciplined enough to say “satisfied” in one area of life, there is longing in another.  There is treasure to be found by digging deep, but one must search for the right thing in the right place to find it.  Deeper relationship with God.  That is what we really seek and that is what can be found.  But we must dig past false hope and lesser treasure to find it.  Unlikely places.  Likely places.  Unlikely circumstances.  Likeable situations.  Opportunities, all of them,  for digging deep.

  Desire.

“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Psalm 37:4

Too often I desire lesser things.  Health.  Healing.  Children.  Family.  Friendships.  Right Relationships.  Or even lesser things.  A bigger yard.  A better driving record.  Manageable hair.  Desires.  At times fulfilled.  At times, not.

“..Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return.  The LORD gave, and he LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”  Job 1:21

Health was never “mine”.  Family was never “mine.”  The yard...was never “mine.”

All the while, He is mine.

He draws me closer with a deeper and lasting desire for Him.  A desire that is not meant to change and meant to be fully realized someday.  Maybe to be realized a little more...today.

Press into desire, meant to be filled.
