Christmas Dreaming

Imagine the best Christmas you can think of

The people, the presents, the laughter, the love

Tables for feasting with more than enough

Yet you never feel hungry and never feel stuffed

Imagine a Christmas, filled with delight

Each little detail, perfectly right

A warmth of togetherness, feeling of rest

All you can dream of, the best of the best

Imagine a Christmas where everyone cares

Where no one is jealous cause everyone shares

Where no one gets tired or has troubling pains

Where everyone’s happy and no one complains

Imagine a Christmas where deep in your heart

You were satisfied fully, no aching parts

A time and a place, which such joy would bring

You’d change nothing about it, no not one small thing

People say this is not what Christmas ‘tis

You may like to dream but it is what it is

Sooner or later, things fall apart

And there are still longings in most people’s hearts

But we must remember the reason Christ came

Was to give life to those who His promises claim

There’s a homecoming better than Christmas above

Where His children forever will live, in His love

What our hearts long for most is what Christ came to give

We will know it in full, when in Heaven we live

We could not reach God, and so God came down

The atonement we needed, in Christ is now found

So why not imagine on this Christmas Eve

All He’s preparing for those who believe

His love’s everlasting, His reign is forever

And that is worth more than the best Christmas ever!

"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.  And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."

Luke 1:31-33 (ESV)
