Child in The Manger

 

Perhaps this past year was a year of happiness for you

Perhaps your ship came in and perhaps your dreams came true

Perhaps this past year was a year of heartache and of pain

Perhaps you think that Christmas time will never be the same

 

Maybe you are hoping for a very special gift

Or time with friends and family to give your heart a lift

Perhaps you like the Christmas music or the Christmas lights

Or perhaps what you want most of all is a quiet Christmas night

 

No matter what your preferences or circumstance this year

I hope this Christmas you take time to stop and to draw near

To the child in the manger which the angels still proclaim

The hope of every longing heart and Name above all Names (1)

 

More than anything this year I hope you come to know

The fullness of the love that manger held so long ago

The peace and forgiveness that the Christ child came to bring

The truth of how just knowing Him, changes everything

 

When life is overwhelming and you don’t know what to do

He is the Wonderful Counselor (2) who knows God’s plan for you

He will walk the road with you so you are not alone

He is the Good Shepherd (3) and He came to lead you home

 

He changes things with light of hope when hope is growing dim

He is the Mighty God (4), all things are possible with Him

He is the Son of Man (5) and understands your suffering

He is the Son of God (6) and so He can redeem all things

 

He can fill the longings that lie deep within your soul

He is the Bread of Life (7) who satisfies and makes you whole

The Everlasting Father (8), whose love is without measure

He is the Messiah (9) and we are His greatest treasure

 

He loved us in our weakness, in our failures and our sin

He came to pay our debt so we could have new life in Him

The angel named Him Jesus (10) for He came to set us free

To those who call Him Savior (11) He gives life eternally

 

He is the loving High Priest (12) who our weakness understands

He intercedes for us as He sits at God’s right hand

And yet He is Immanuel (13), “God with us”, always

Light of the World (14) and Word (15) made flesh, hope for all our days

 

This world is full of change, much is uncertain and unknown

But this child in the manger, He is the Cornerstone (16)

He can lead us through the storms or cause the waves to cease

In every situation, He is our Prince of Peace (17)

 

He is Alpha and Omega (18) the beginning and the end

Reigning Lord of Glory (19) yet to man on earth a friend

King of kings and Lord of lords (20), worthy to be praised

Beautiful His sacrifice, perfect are His ways

 

Do you “know Him” or just “know of Him”, the two are not the same

For till He lives inside your heart, His name is just a name

For you’ll never know the treasure, of all He came to bring

Till you let the Christ (21) of Christmas, change your everything!
